Daily Itinerary

Day 1 January 17 - Depart the USA

Depart the USA aboard your international flight to Israel.

Day 2 January 18 - Welcome to Israel

You’ll be met and welcomed by our representatives and transferred to your hotel in Bethlehem for dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 3 January 19 - Bethlehem

Read the Christmas Story from a cave like the one in which Jesus was born at Shepherd’s Field and stand among the ancient mosaics that memorialize our Savior’s birth at the Church of the Nativity. End your day in the home of a Christian, Palestinian family and enjoy a home-cooked dinner at their table. (B, D)

Day 4 January 20 - Jericho, Qumran, and the Dead Sea

Discover the remains of an Essene community along the shores of the Dead Sea – better known as Qumran – the famous repository of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Pick back up on Jesus’ final trek up to Jerusalem with a stop in Jericho, where Zacchaeus once climbed a Sycamore tree to get a better view of Jesus (Luke 19) and where you can walk through the tel where Rahab lived (Joshua 2). Spend a few minutes looking west and contemplate Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness as you view the Mount of Temptation (Matthew 4). Wrap up your day with a dip (or more accurately, a float!) in the Dead Sea and take in the landscape where Abraham and Lot once took diverging paths (Genesis 13-14, 18-19). (B, D)

Day 5 January 21 - The Galilee

Take a bus ride through the Jordan Valley and then enjoy reflecting on Jesus’ ministry as you sail on the Sea of Galilee. Recall his power over creation (Matthew 8:23–27) and see the remains of a boat that dates to Jesus’ time. Humbly ponder God’s judgement (Matthew 11:23-24) and grace (Matthew 8:14–15) at the ruins of Capernaum. Imagine Jesus preaching the culture-shattering Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5) when you stand on the Mount of Beatitudes. Gain more insight into Jesus’ charge to Peter on the shores of the Sea of Galilee as they talked that wonderful morning after the resurrection (John 21). Contemplate Jesus teaching in a recently discovered synagogue at Magdala once home to Mary Magdalene. Read and sing Psalms 120 – 134 on your return ride up to Jerusalem. (B, D)

Day 6 January 22 - Museums and the Mount of Olives

As the morning sun rises, you’ll enjoy a day filled with many reminders of God’s covenant with his people. From the Mount of Olives, David fled into the wilderness behind you (2 Samuel 15) and Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem (John 12) in front of you. Gaze across the Kidron Valley from the Mount of Olives into the Old City of Jerusalem before taking the solemn yet triumphant Palm Sunday walk to the Dominus Flevit Chapel, where Jesus wept over the city (Luke 19). Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22), where Jesus, being in agony, sweat blood in humble obedience to the Father. Then, visit the 2nd Temple Model of Jerusalem and the Shrine of the Book (dedicated to preserving the Dead Sea Scrolls) at the Israel Museum. Next, experience Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial Jerusalem. (B, D)

Day 7 January 23 - Jerusalem

Spend your final day in Israel worshiping God for his faithfulness to his people. Remember the words of the Messiah as you sit on those same southern temple steps where he taught (Mark 12:28-34). Recall his justice and mercy as you say a prayer at the Western Wall and see the Temple Mount and the Dome of the Rock. Celebrate Jesus perfectly fulfilling the law when you sing a hymn in St. Anne’s Crusader Church and remember him healing on the Sabbath (John 5). At the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, climb the steps to the traditional place of Christ’s crucifixion. Spend time worshiping as you walk through the Edicule (the traditional site of Jesus’ burial and resurrection. Explore the alcoves of the church that were built over and around old tombs as you celebrate your Savior’s victory over death. Then, make your way to the Garden Tomb (another possible location of the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection) to take Communion led by a pastor in your group. Return to the hotel to prepare for your late-night flight home. (B, D)
